Speaking in Hydrangea I - PRINT
Print of the first of 3 original hydrangea watercolours, from a triptych painted in Vancouver, 2020.
I can't believe I didn't used to like hydrangea flowers!
Several years ago in the Coast Salish territories of Vancouver, I fell in love with the variety, subtlety, colour, shapes and voices of hydrangea blossoms. I love the way they populate bushes across the city with their pom pom like soft globes of colour...collecting rain and emanating joy and beauty. The process of painting this triptych was a long and beautiful meditation...studying each blossoms unique petal and the gradations of colour and form changing and colliding, just like the water and paint on the page. They have a voice of their own....speaking hydrangea.
